FAMILY AND FRIENDS...

You have been given the gift of Wonder and here is your chance to tell us about your experience.  We would like to know how you received your book, a little about yourself (we want to see how far the books travel), what you thought about the book, and how you continued "The Wonder" journey by passing the book along.  Thank you for embarking on this adventure with us and we hope that you have been changed for the better!!  Choose Kind!!

Random Acts of Kindess

RJ Palacio had a clear vision for writing her first novel Wonder.  Click on the short video from RJ Palacio.

This book has inspired me to think of ways that I can made the world a better place.  I have started working with my students to start a chain reaction of “random acts of kindness” throughout our school.  I know that sometimes to makes it more special when you do an random act of kindness without anyone knowing but… if you want to share and idea, a project, or something you have done to make the world a little better from someone else, please do!  We promise not to pat you on the back or send praises but know that we are all smiling on the inside!!  Here is a link to a video clip about a girl named Madison who decided to use her talents to make a difference.  I love her quote, “My dream was always to change the world and so this I am not changing the world as a whole but changing one kid’s world with every pair of shoes I send out.”  Go Madison!!!  Thanks for inspiring… you’re changing the whole world.

School... Thoughts from the students

Wonder is going to be something that my students and I are going to be talking about for the rest of the year.  I wanted to create a place for them to share their thoughts and ideas as we continue our journey.  I am so proud of each of them and excited to see how they "Choose Kind".

Christmas Project 2013

I was introduced to the book Wonder by RJ Palacio in the spring of 2013 when I was looking for a book for a summer book club with my 5th grade students.  Once I read the book, I knew that this book was going to be with me for a long time.  After a successful summer book club, I decided to share the book with my new students in the fall.  I don't usually read a chapter book as a read aloud because it is difficult to keep up with the momentum of a story in such short chunks.  Everyday my students asked if we were reading more Wonder... I knew it was something that needed to continue.  More books were popping up around the room as I was reading and even a few parents said that they started the book too.  As we continued to the end of the book, I felt like I couldn't have this experience end.  A student said that he was getting a copy for his grandma who loved to read and that sparked the idea in my mind.  As I prepared my holiday gifts I couldn't imagine a better gift for my family and friends than to share this amazing book.  I created this blog for them to share their thoughts along with my students about their experience and how the book has changed them.  I also encouraged them to take the book and pass it along to someone else.  I, along with my students, am excited to see how the book and blog travel around and people share what they think and feel about the book.  It just makes me wonder...
